About Simon Lord, Q.C.
Simon Lord has practiced criminal defence, and only criminal defence, his entire professional career.
Beginning as the youngest member of Britain’s largest criminal Barristers’ Chambers, Simon spent his early years defending everything from London East-Enders charged with pick pocketing at Bow Street Magistrates Court, to rape and armed robbery jury trials at the Old Bailey – a baptism by fire!
In 1987 he founded Lord Russell. He has practiced with the same co-founders ever since. Lord Russell has long held a position as one of Calgary’s most established and trusted criminal law firms.
For many years, Simon had a busy, high volume practice. This gave him the extensive experience he now brings to bear and established his reputation for concern for clients and the public, reasonableness, thoroughness and court room ability. He has many hundreds of satisfied clients and a Province wide reputation for high competence and integrity.
He has frequently lectured Bar Admission course students and has spoken to college and University classes. His firm has taught and mentored many articled students.
On January 1st 2008, Simon was one of a number of senior lawyers appointed Queen’s Counsel. According to the Justice Minister in announcing the Queens Counsel appointments, appointment as Queen’s Counsel is a recognition of outstanding contribution to the legal profession and the community at large, and a longstanding tradition which remains a prestigious symbol of respect in the legal community.
